Construction of the much-needed San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital helipad is set to begin in April 2007. Air ambulance helicopters have been using Highland Springs Avenue as a landing area for years to deliver and pickup patients in critical condition. The helipad is located on the east side of the hospital property behind the existing Beaver Medical buildings. The structure is  about eight feet above ground and have a spiral walkway in order to move patients safely and smoothly to and from the hospital. The project received approval from the Caltrans Aeronautical Division. Phase Zero, a helicopter pad, opened with its 1st patient being care-flighted out on Feb. 29, 2008.
